Biography

Haris Papageorgiou is Research Director at the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of ATHENA Research Center (ARC) and co-founder of one of the ARC spinoff companies, Opix, active in the field of Policy and Business Intelligence and data analytics. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.

Haris has worked as an expert in several aspects of STI Policy analysis (e.g., AI-driven Policy Intelligence, robust, trustworthy AI systems, AI in Green and Digital Transitioning, AI and Open Science, STI for Climate adaptation/mitigation, AI in Health, Technology uptake, Causal modeling of policies) in the context of evaluation and assessment of R&I programmes and policies.

He has led the development of an artillery of AI-driven tools for assisting the whole spectrum of STI policy, i.e., agenda setting, modeling design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Haris has held Chief Scientist positions in more than 50 European and national projects for several fields including computational social and life sciences. He specializes in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, knowledge discovery and representation, machine/deep learning, web mining and Natural Language Processing where he has published more than 120 scientific papers.
